Causes and Effects of Deforestation


Deforestation, a constant threat to our environment, helps to increase the earth’s temperature. Increasing the earth’s temperature has become a concern to worry. Deforestation refers to cutting or burning down of forests at random. There are various reasons for it. Firstly, the world population is increasing at a high rate and this additional population requires more land for habitation and agricultural cultivation. Secondly, for an increased number of people, we need more houses, roads, bridges, hospitals, educational institutions and so on. As a result, trees and forests are cut down or living and making houses or furniture. Thirdly, people are also cutting trees for cooking food, making fires, melting pitch and industrial purposes. So we may say that it is men who are only responsible for deforestation. There are many bad impacts of deforestation. Deforestation causes an increase in carbon dioxide around the earth thus it is responsible for global warming. It also causes the extinction of wild animals and ecological imbalance. As an impact of global warming, we face various natural calamities every year. Global warming will cause a rise in sea levels and will submerge the lower parts of the world. It will also decrease the human ability to grow food crops. Deforestation will ultimately endanger our environment as well as our existence. At present, the situation is getting worse day by day. It is high time we took steps to save our environment. We should stop cutting trees and emphasize on tree plantation. Public awareness should be raised on the bad consequence of deforestation.
